False teeth can be a great choice for anyone with severe dental issues, as dentures can readily take the place of rotted or severely chipped and broken teeth. You can then chew and speak easily, and not worry about the appearance of those rotted teeth or gaps due to missing teeth. If you do have false teeth, note a few precautions about their use and care so your dentures are always in good repair and safe for use and your mouth stays as healthy as possible.

You still need to brush

When you brush your natural teeth, you're also brushing your gums, the inside of your cheeks and your tongue. This helps to stimulate that tissue and remove more germs and bacteria. When you have false teeth, you still need to do this! Don't assume that you only need to soak and brush your dentures and not the inside of your mouth when you have false teeth. Invest in a soft toothbrush and be sure to gently brush the gums and tongue several times every day to remove harmful debris that could cause damage to your overall oral health.

Never fix broken dentures yourself

Never use glue or any other type of adhesive to try to fix broken dentures yourself. Many glues are made with toxic ingredients that can break down and mix with your saliva when in the mouth, and this can be dangerous to your health. The porous surface of dentures may also fail to hold household glues, so that the dentures are at risk of breaking again, especially when under pressure from eating or talking. This can cause even more severe damage to the teeth, and be dangerous for you, if you should swallow any part of broken dentures. Always take broken dentures to a dentist or denture clinic for repairs instead.

Clean your dentures

Dentures should be soaked every day so that the solution can reach places you would miss with a denture brush, but the dentures still need to be cleaned, even in addition to soaking. Brushing and rinsing your false teeth under running water will remove food particles from the surface as well as germs and bacteria.

Also, be sure you use fresh cleaning solution when you soak your dentures; old and used solution will hold lots of bacteria, germs, and other debris after each soaking. Fresh solution is best for dentures so that they're always as clean as possible.
