There are plenty of questions that people have when they're thinking about getting Invisalign braces. One of the more personal ones — and one that many people are a little embarrassed to ask — is whether kissing is going to be okay with Invisalign braces in. If it's something you've been wondering that you didn't feel comfortable asking your dentist or orthodontist, all you need to do is read on to get the skinny on kissing with Invisalign.

Take it Easy at First

Most people never experience any issues while kissing with Invisalign braces in; after all, it's not like people generally kiss each other's teeth. And it's common to underestimate just how firmly Invisalign braces fit — you really shouldn't have to worry about them coming loose.

That said, it's best to go easy at first. Simply put: Keep it to light kissing for the first few days. This will help you get used to the sensation of kissing while wearing someone on your teeth. More importantly, it's common for the teeth to ache a little when you first start wearing, and more passionate kissing could exacerbate the problem.

Resist Removing Your Invisalign Braces

One of the great things about Invisalign braces is that you can slip them out at will, but that's really only something you should do when you have to eat or when you need to brush and floss. It can be tempting to remove them when you're getting up close and personal with your partner, but that can become a habit, one that's only going to increase the amount of treatment time that you're facing.

The rule goes double for anyone whose Invisalign braces use buttons, which is the name for the enamel-coloured attachments that are sometimes used to provide help with alignment. These buttons are very hard to spot, but they can be slightly sharp, making an unpleasant surprise for someone else's lips or tongue.

Just Be Upfront

If you're going to be kissing your significant other, they're already going to know that you're wearing Invisalign braces. However, you might be meeting someone new and feel a little awkward about telling them what you're wearing. Just remember that most people won't be bothered — it's far better to be upfront that you're wearing Invisalign braces rather than removing them through embarrassment or simply avoiding a date. Invisalign is meant to be virtually invisible, so if your latest crush isn't into you simply because you wear Invisalign, are they really worth the bother?
